Overview
Spain's official disability certificate (certificado de discapacidad) formally recognises a disability grade and can unlock a range of benefits — from transport and tax reductions to priority access to certain services. Applying is done through your Autonomous Community.
Requirements
- Open to residents of Spain with a diagnosed condition affecting daily functioning
- A recognised disability grade of 33% or higher is generally the threshold for the accompanying accreditation card and most associated benefits
Step-by-step process
- Apply through your Autonomous Community's disability assessment centre (centro base), either online with a digital certificate or in person with a prior appointment
- Attend a medical/functional assessment, where a specialist evaluates your condition against the official assessment scale
- Receive your official resolution stating your recognised disability grade
- Request the accompanying accreditation card, generally issued automatically once a grade of 33% or higher is recognised
