Spain offers a straightforward way to reduce most traffic fines by half — paying within 20 calendar days of notification — though the discount isn't available for every type of offence.
Requirements
- The 50% early-payment discount applies to leve (minor) and grave (serious) offences, but not to muy grave (very serious) ones
- Paying with the discount means forfeiting your right to appeal — you can't do both
Step-by-step process
- Review your fine notification for the exact amount, reference number, and payment deadline
- To claim the discount, pay within 20 calendar days of the notification date
- Pay online through the DGT's electronic payment portal, by bank transfer, or in person at authorised payment points, depending on which options are listed on your notification
- Keep your payment confirmation as proof
